I am, admittedly, long-winded. If you’re just here for the contest, that’s cool. Just skip through my ramblings to the bottom to see the rules.
First it was flesh eating bees, now we have to worry about entire beaches plotting against us, apparently.
We’re on vacation. What says vacation better than a trip to the beach? Nothing. The answer is nothing. Oh, except not getting out of your jammies until noon, showering only because you’re going somewhere, and 80’s movie marathons. And barbecue. Lots of barbecue. The beach, jammies, not showering, old movies, and barbecue. That’s Vacation wrapped up right there.
We were all covered with the last three, so today we decided to go to the beach. The sun was shining (foreshadowing), none of us had been hit with a run away beach umbrella in a while (more foreshadowing), and we don’t really get sandstorms all the way up north here (foreshadowing, thricely). IT’S BOUND TO BE SO MUCH FUN.
So, yeah. Moments after arriving, Avery and AH were hit with a very large, very fast moving umbrella that had been blown away by a very large, very determined gust of wind. My baby’s got a sore, bruised shoulder to show for it. Then the sky began to darken, so we quickly packed up and headed inland toward a park, when a brief yet vicious windstorm blew rocks and sand and mud all over us, in our eyes, our mouths, all over our clothes. That’s when the skies opened up, just to add insult to injury. THE BEACH IS AWESOME.
HOWEVER, after the umbrella but before the dark skies, we had a lovely time for about an hour. We had a big pile of brand new sand toys we were there to try out, so we made the most of it.
What we had was four sets from Melissa & Doug’s Sunny Patch line of sand toys.
How cute are these, right? They’re even cuter in real life. The baking set comes with three measuring cups, a spoon, a whisk, a big bucket/mixing bowl, and a sieve that doubles as a lid. But my favourite of the four is the cupcake set, with bottom molds and different sea-themed tops and a little icing bag to decorate. Seriously, too cute. The molding set nests together for easy storage and the pail and shovel, as the rest of the sets, are made from a very heavy duty plastic. Even the roughest kids (which I’d wager my kids rank way up there on the list of rough kids) would be hard pressed to break these toys, which is probably the number one annoyance with sand toys. You start digging away at what will surely be the greatest hole in the sand of all time, and the handle snaps off and you’re stuck digging with a serving spoon.
The kids had a ball ‘baking’ with the sand, digging to China, and making castles. And, to be honest, we’ve had these for a couple weeks now and they’ve had just as much fun playing with them in our living room.
Would you like some for yourself? Or your kids. Whatever. ‘Cause you can! Well, if you win you can because Melissa & Doug is giving away to one (1) lucky winner each of these four sets. They will receive The Seaside Sidekicks Sand Baking Set, The Clicker Crab Pail and Shovel, The Seaside Sand Molding Set, AND AND AND The Seaside Sidekicks Sand Cupcake Set! I’M TOTALLY SERIOUS. You, too, can make sand cupcakes and bake sand treats and dig great holes and make wonderful sea sand molds with your kids on the beach! Let’s just hope the beach doesn’t try to kill you like it did us.
