A Song That I Listen To When You’re Happy

I keep coming back to my kids, but that’s the way it is when you have them.  They tend to make up an important and significant portion of your being, memories included.  I mentioned on days 5 and 10 that I used to sing my kids to sleep with Mockingbird, Rockabye Baby, I Wanna Be A Pal Of Yours, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, and Littlest Birds, which you may or may not remember, depending on how good you are at memorizing minute details of strangers lives.  These are, most definitely and collectively, some of my favourite memories from my girls’ baby years, and to recall them makes me happy.  Sad that they’re gone, sure, but happy that they happened and that I get to have that memory of them for the rest of my life.

For my happy song, I’m going to play for you the one song up there that, I’m guessing, you’re unsure of.  Littlest Birds by the Be Good Tanyas is a sweet little tune that, again, played on a commercial while I was pregnant with Eirinn.  I thought to myself the first time I heard it “this is literally the most perfect song I’ve ever heard”, and so I listened again and again and vowed to make it my motherhood theme.  The chorus is especially perfect for a first time parent:

Well, I love you so dearly, I love you so clearly

I wake you up in the mornin’ so early

Just to tell you I got the wanderin’ blues

I got the wanderin’ blues

And I’m gonna quit these ramblin’ ways

One of these days soon and I’ll, and I’ll sing

The littlest birds sing the prettiest songs

Obviously, the baby being the littlest bird.  Obviously.
