A Song That Makes Me Feel Guilty

I don’t have anything real to feel guilty about, but I did once ruin one of the best albums of all time for a friend once.  She came with us on a road trip to Florida, which, from Ontario, is about 22 hours without stopping.  Me, being the asshole teenager that I was, insisted on the best seat in the van and I also commandeered the cd player for the entire trip.  So, because I was an asshole, I played two cds for the entire trip.  One after the other, then back again.  I didn’t care if anyone was getting sick of the same 20 or so songs over and over again because wasn’t and was the one in charge of the music because appointed myself as such.

The first was Pearl Jam’s Ten.  Everyone on God’s green earth knew, had, and loved that cd.  I don’t think I could have ruined Ten if I played each song on repeat for 22 hours each.

The second cd was Bush X (in Canada, they were called Bush X back them because of some copyright infringement on the name Bush or something) Sixteen Stone.  I was obsessed with that cd but not everyone felt the same way…apparently.  It was really, a very good disc, so I kind of feel like I destroyed the band for someone who may otherwise have grown to love the band as I did back then.  I should maybe have brought along more than two cds for a trip that, including stops, took two full days confined in a van with six people.  But whatever.  I told you, I was an asshole teenager.

Come Down by Bush X.

  1. Whoa…interesting. I have an irrational hate for Bush – like I have to turn them off whenever they come on, but at the same time, I kind of enjoy their music, so it doesn’t make sense…until now…

So, you can feel guilty about ruining that band for me, too. I wonder if Kevin hates them for no reason.

  2. Ive been playing PJ’s Ten since it’s the 21st anniversary of its release for several days.

Bush’s Sixteen Stone was one of those that I played a lot for the first few months it came out became of Everything Zen and then put away for a while. While they may not be super oriiginal or even super good, that record works, as does this song. I guess you could say you song choice make me fel guilty for liking it. well done
